"The cabin's name, 'A River Runs Through It' , certainly conjured images of respite and tranquility but it did not prepare us for the absolute magic of the place. We began our journey on a crisp day in the throes of winter. In the rare absence of rain the vibrant emerald green waters seemed to have swallowed up the sun and, as we traveled across the windy road that followed the river, I was reminded more of tropical pleasures than of the northwest.

We found the cabin nestled in a small bend in the river. Snow still covered some of the edges of the road and the promise of a chilly night made the log cabin all the more inviting. How lucky we were to be among the first guests! The small comforts of home enhanced rather than diminished the feelings of rugged luxury. The warm flannel sheets and
down comforter, the stone sink, the claw foot tub, the distinct door handles, and the stained wood floors were delicate details of the place that only added to its charm.

Finally, after a day of playing, we were lulled to sleep by the
rhythmic flow of the river and the steady fall of rain. We awoke to the sun filtering through the trees and into the skylight above the bed. The river was swollen from the heavy night of rain and we lay in bed listening to it thunder past the cabin. Finally, we unfurled ourselves from the drowsiness of sleep by simply sitting on the back porch with a hot cup of coffee and drinking in the quiet majesty of the place.

What a soothing and invigorating experience. Thank you so much Catharine and Phil for opening up your cabin to us and giving us such a fond memory to savor. We look forward to the next time!"

Sincerely,
Laura and Hugo Vargas

"We used to go to Orcas Island until lately. Our weekends are too precious to spend at a ferry terminal waiting to get home. We never thought we could find a getaway so wonderful and so close to home. From now on we'll plan all of our weekend getaways at A River Runs Through It."

"We took a walk today from the cabin and saw snow covered peaks, a suspension bridge, salmon spawning, a place where the creek split and came together again, but the best part was when we came back to the cabin and realized that this was the most beautiful spot we had seen all day."
